All Steel Equipment Inc.

I love my desk. I bought it for 43 dollars from a fellow on Craig's list. I don't know much about the value of antiques, I just know what I like and a buy it. I usually linger towards mid-century and industrial designs. I am in love with the rustic farm house craze but my home tends to lean to the retro side of things. It suits me.

My desk is from All Steel Equipment Incorporated . The company was founded in 1912. It started manufacturing electrical boxes, lockers and such and eventually bought another company that made metal filing cabinets and started making equipment for the military due to World War II.

In 1947, the company began making desks and I have such a desk. It's metal and has 1 drawer in the front. After doing a little research, I've found that Past, Present, Future refers to my "desk" as a "Library Table". Which makes since, It does not have many drawers and at that time would not be a very practical desk for that time.

I have always thought that we did a pretty good job purchasing the desk.. I mean... how many people have a really cool vintage mid-century desk that they have gotten for 43 dollars? Well.. I did a little searching and found that a desk just like our in size and design (not color) is being sold for 575 dollars! I think I did a good job ;)

I love objects with history embedded in them. I like to day dream about the people that used them. Where they were from, who they were. Not only that, but I so love the design aesthetic from the mid-century... it completes me.
